How to use the Yahtzee roller

  1. Roll all five dice — tap Roll or tap the table.
  2. Hold the dice you want to keep by tapping them on the table or in the result row. Held dice get a gold ring.
  3. Roll again to throw only the others. You get up to three rolls a turn; the counter shows which roll you are on.
  4. Score it. The roller lists the combinations you have — Yahtzee, straights, full house, kinds — with their points. Then press New turn.

The same hold-and-re-roll works for Farkle, Ship Captain & Crew, Generala and other five-dice games.

Quick strategy tips

  • Chase the upper bonus early. Three of each number in the upper section scores exactly 63 — enough for the 35-point bonus.
  • Keep pairs and triples on the first roll unless you already hold four in a row.
  • Use Chance as a safety net for a bad turn late in the game, not a mediocre one early.
  • Do not sacrifice the Yahtzee box lightly: with roughly a 4.6% chance per turn, it often comes along at least once in thirteen turns.

Frequently asked questions

What are the odds of rolling a Yahtzee in one roll?

1 in 1,296 (6 out of 7,776 possible rolls), about 0.077%. Using all three rolls of a turn and keeping your most common number, the chance rises to about 4.6%.

How many rolls do you get in a Yahtzee turn?

Up to three. After the first and second rolls you can keep any dice and re-roll the rest. The roller counts the rolls for you and starts a new turn after the third.

How do I hold dice in this roller?

Tap a die on the 3D table, or its chip in the results. A gold ring shows it is held, and the next roll throws only the other dice. Tap again to release it.

What is the difference between a small and a large straight?

A small straight is four numbers in a row (1-2-3-4, 2-3-4-5 or 3-4-5-6) and scores 30. A large straight is five in a row (1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6) and scores 40.

How does the upper section bonus work?

If your Aces through Sixes add up to 63 or more, you get a 35-point bonus. 63 is what you get by scoring three of each number.
